This Event is Full, and Waitlisted. Seats are available for the TC Camp Unconference on Saturday, January 23!

This workshop is best experienced with a laptop computer. See Workshop Logistics and Prerequisites.

This is an all-day practical workshop on Application Programming Interface (API) technical writing. Software developers use APIs to make apps that communicate with other apps and with software/hardware components. API technical writers create documentation and other content that helps developers hook their apps up to someone else’s API. For a technical writer, it’s an exciting, challenging and rewarding field.

This workshop consists of lectures interspersed with hands-on sessions where participants apply what they have learned. The workshop assumes that you have some experience as a technical writer in the software industry, and are interested in moving into API documentation. You’ll need a working knowledge of web pages and HTML; it will be useful if you have a basic understanding of programming. Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon refreshments are included.

About our presenters

Sarah-June2014 035-surprise-trunc2Sarah Maddox is a technical writer with Google and renowned expert in API documentation. Sarah’s love for chocolate is legendary, as demonstrated by her book “Confluence, Tech Comm, and Chocolate” (published by XML Press). She enjoys strolling through the Australian bush, despite the requirement to dodge huge spiders and ferocious birds. She finds the resulting adrenalin rush is highly effective in clearing writer’s block.

Andy Fuchs is a senior technical writer, software developer, and scrum master, currently with Google. He was one of the world’s first consumer video game sound designers. He has dreamed in multiple languages, and finds thrills riding his motorcycle at the racetrack.
